My African Heritage
This blog is about anything and everything African :) A young lady's journey through her continent. The food we eat, the things we value, the wars we fight, the love we have and the spirit of Ubuntu that resonates in all our heartbeats. This Is My African Heritage.

HOTELS I LIKE IN ZIMBABWE
My Favourite Hotel In Zimbabwe
This I write from my own personal experience
and point of view. I have had the privilege to tour my country and stay in
various hotels, lodges and accommodation spots . I have stayed in 5Star hotels
3Star hotels, 2Star hotels, motels and executive lodges around my country. I’m
talking from Mathebeleland, north, east ,west and south to Mashonaland and Manicaland
. I have stayed in these places while travelling on business and some taking
family vacations.
My favourite hotel in Zimbabwe is found in a small mining
town called Gwanda in Mathebland south . This hotel is along the high way to
SOUTH AFRICA, its next door to Engen filling station and opposite Redan filling
station. The name of this hotel is the Mishies Gwanda Hotel, previously known
as the Eland Hardys Inn . The town
Gwanda is situated in between Bulawayo and Bietbridge boarder town. Gwanda is
126 km from Bulawayo and 200 from Bietbridge.
The Mishies Gwanda hotel is a 2star hotel that has 26 rooms,
a 100 setter conference, a 20 setter board room, beautiful functions garden, a
wedding venue garden with a pool and gazebo that seats 200 guest .IT has a
restaurant that accommodates 40 guest, It has a big parking area that can park
50 cars securely with security. It sure sounds like any other hotel out there, doesn’t
it?
The question is what makes this hotel so unique to other
places that l have stayed in, or what about it that makes it ONE of my favourite
hotels in the country?.
.
.
This hotel offers the cheapest rates of all the hotels in
the country. They offer weekend special prices every Friday to Sunday. Accommodation
comes with a complementary breakfast and dinner. This breakfast is no ordinary
breakfast, its full English breakfast with fruits and juice on the side. The
dinner is a two course buffet meal served with a drink, all under the price of
the low rate of accommodation that you paid for.
The conference packages they have are great and affordable, for any business function that you might want to host. They have free
unlimited WiFi for all their visiting guest. Affordable meal charges. With good tasty meals. It truly sounds like
any other hotel out there.
Above all that I have said about this hotel, here is what I
love about this place.
Their motto or mission statement says servimus vervimus which is Latin meaning We Live To Serve. I have seen that these people truly work and live by what they declare on their mission statement. The staff and management of The Mishies Gwanda Hotel truly go out of their way to provide a service with a smile ,service that goes beyond the call of duty. These people understand the true meaning of a customer being the king and the customer being always right. I am not declaring perfection but am commending them for the hard good work they do to make a customer feel at home away from home. When they make mistakes they truly go out of their way to make things right. They are not rigid with their charges of any kind of service they offer. They do their share of giving back to the community with no incentives what’s so ever. During holiday season they give or donate to various charities and organisations. To name but a few the Mayors Christmas chair fund or providing free Christmas lunches to the elders at the old people’s homes. These old forks dress up every Christmas and go and have their Christmas lunch, a three course meal with a drink at the hotel. They have Christmas lunch with the executive management of the hotel
They also work with some NGO’s that help sponsor and train young people with employment programs in order to fund their tertiary education. They are more than service providers they have become a source of help and hope for families and society.

There is no request that goes unattended to. From what I
gather this is a Christian owned hotel, where they don’t serve or sell alcohol
with in the premises. In a bid to cut out on promiscuity in hotels, they have
done way with all free condom’s placed in hotels rooms or given away for free
at the reception area, and bars. They have opened up their doors to churches,
prayer meetings and Bible school. They have done away with slot machines and a casino
that was run at the hotel. They have done away with every activity that goes against
their Christian faith in our lord and saviour Jesus Christ.
The hotel is undergoing major renovations and changes. it
was renovated 20 years ago when the current owners bought it from its previous
owners. Now new changes are under way.
I really like the Mishies Gwanda hotel ,it is a home away
from home. I encourage anyone in Zimbabwe or outside the country to one day take
a visit and see for yourself, because your wish is their command.

THE ZIMBABWEAN PEOPLE PART2
Zimbabwe is a harbour of talented and intelligent people, who know what it is to go from nothing to something great.Zimbabwe is a testimony nation that there is GOD in heaven. In the mist of all kinds of economic hardships Zimbabweans do excel even in dark dead places.
The fact that you find so many of us in foreign nations working in high positions, does not mean we are unable to live and work in our own country. There are so many graduates in Zimbabwe every year and no jobs for them because other educated Zimbabweans are filling the present jobs, and so many Zimbabweans run their own businesses.
Going to look for employment in other foreign lands is just a way of maximising our skills qualifications and abilities to make the most for ourselves and families.
Here is another interesting observation that I have made about my fellow Zimbabwean brothers and sisters. When they travel to foreign lands to do business or pleasure .They don't use credit cards or all these credit systems. They shop with hard cold cash which they worked hard for.I personally do the same. So i must say our existence and constant visits to other foreign countries is very good for the ordinary business people who want to sell their wares in order to make a living .

In all things God created there is a reason . Why we were born into this world as Zimbabweans only God knows. All I know is that I will remain true to my place and country of birth. |
